Have you ever wondered what a reading really is? As in, what is happening and how does it work? Then this is the post for you.
I gave my first official reading when I was 16, and advised a woman that if a certain action was taken, the results could be extreme and threaten her own life. The woman did not heed the advice that came through and proceeded. A week later I heard that she'd had an accident that rolled her car over several times nearly killing her and landing her in hospital with major whiplash and one hell of a wake-up call to stop her destructive behaviour.
Backing up even further, I think my earliest unofficial readings happened as a child, when I would wake up and say to my mother, "don't take the road by the grocery store today" or, "call grandma today, she's waiting".
I spooked people for sure and frankly that has not really stopped 😂!
But what is it that is happening in a reading? Do I and other clairvoyants possess magical and supernatural powers? I don't really think so. I heard once that, 'magic is science we don't understand yet' and that always felt comfortable for me. What I have learned over the years is that energy follows certain patterns of flow, and it doesn't really matter if we are applying this to working with a physical body, a computer program or something more abstract such as looking at someone's current circumstances and where they are heading.
I like to think of it like this: our daily choices and actions create patterns in our reality. Some of those actions are our own and some are a response to those of others. Each of these can be thought of as a thread, and when woven together, they direct a pattern or weaving in a particular way. Some of those threads are moveable (most really) and then there are the odd ones that just aren't - for reasons I don't pretend to know, but that I suspect have to do with Divine intervention.
So when I look at the energy patterns around a person's current circumstances or the question they have asked me, I am able to see where there are tangles in the threads, where there are more flowing areas, and look at projections of how those patterns will evolve, if X, Y or Z.
Once someone makes a new choice or action, the threads will shift again and the weaving will change. This is also very important to mention because it reminds the querent that they are in charge of their own destiny through the choices they make, and that a reading in no way "locks in" any particular outcome. It's really just a snapshot of the now, and some information on how those threads are likely to evolve if no change is made or in the event of certain changes.
For me as a reader, I enjoy doing them, because the experience is akin to looking at circuit boards and seeing how the different wires connect and where they light up. I find this to be a rather technical and straight-forward process that let's my brain work on both intuitive and analytical levels at the same time. I also enjoy being able to give my clients pretty direct or straight-forward information about the weavings they are creating and what might help them make their best next move.
It is not necessary for me to use cards during a reading, but I do because I have a relationship with the archetypal imagery of traditional tarot decks that I find accesses deep and simple meanings for my clients. It makes it easier for me to convey the information coming through. The Emperor for example, is a strong, masculine, unyielding energy that revolves around rules, rulership, patriarchal energies, stability and in some ways, law. If the card appears in a reading, it can signify very strong energy that will secure something in place or be very difficult to shift, and at the same time function within a limited and inflexible set of rules. It can of course also represent a person who functions in that way - depending on the question and situation. When we hear about that kind of analogy, most of us can instantly pick up on it and relate to it, thereby making the message easier to absorb.
People who do readings and report that they are being fed information by spirits or other entities - well maybe they do, and that's their business, but for me this is not the case. I am looking at energy patterns and reading them as I see them in that moment. I don't bring other entities into it because, from my perspective why would I complicate matters?
People often ask me if I myself use readings in my own life. The short answer is: sometimes. I do occasionally have a look at very specific issues to ask what my current actions or intentions are potentially creating in terms of energy flows. I may also ask what information I can have in terms of what would create the most ideal flow for me in a certain area. However, I don't over-use the cards as I believe we are here to experience and if we pre-empt all of our experiences with strategy, we may miss out on some of the most sublime and interesting surprises that can show up in a life cocktail. Sometimes I want a strategic answer on something, but more often I want to move through life and experience it moment by moment. As with all things, I feel there is a time and a place, and overly relying on anything will quickly become a hindrance or obsession.
If you'd like to schedule a reading with me, I'd be delighted to look at the energy flows in your life on a certain topic or question you may have.
Please note that there is a 2 month waiting period in between readings.
